Logistically, Clark couldn't get drunk. Even if he did want to, Earth wasn't the place to do it.
Though if you didn't know that, and didn't know him, you would've thought he might be right now.
It had been three weeks without him, and it had just started to feel better. For all his kindness, there was a certain bit of pride that could make him refuse to admit when Superman caused issues. A lack of accountability that (for worse, this time) wouldn't let him apologize for skipping out on another date.
You hadn't wanted him to feel bad for going off and saving lives instead of coming to dinner, but an acknowledgment of his absences was long overdue by the time you decided you needed to call it quits. He would have been absolutely perfect if he could just say sorry.
But he couldn't, and didn't, and so you were alone in your apartment watching yet another rom com while a pint of ice cream melted in your lap. You weren't even going to wallow tonight, but you'd forgotten to turn off your notifications for the word 'Superman', and you'd had to see him getting tossed around and thrown into the ground.
You knew he was fine, he would always be fine. It didn't stop you from worrying, though. And worry would keep him in your mind all night, so ice cream and movies it was, trying to freeze out his image for your own sake.
When you heard knocking on your door, you assumed it was the old man down the hall asking for help finding his cat again. What you did not expect was having to tilt your head up enough to meet Clark's eyes.
He looked fine, already healed back up, save for the hair that had fallen out of place on his flight back to Metropolis. It was hard to think of anything to say, seeing him after he'd been on your mind for hours.
You didn't want him back, not if he wasn't going to change anything. As much as it hurt, you needed to stand your ground on what you wanted.
But then you saw his expression soften, his lips dropping open wordlessly for a second before he said the one thing you really needed to hear. "I'm sorry, {{user}}. I'm so sorry."
Yeah, it almost seemed like he'd had a few.
