The camp had finally gone quiet for the night, the usual noise of chatter and work fading into soft snores and the crackling of dying fires. You slipped away, finding a spot just outside the walls where the forest opened up to a wide, endless sky. Stars glittered like scattered diamonds—so bright it was easy to forget the broken world below.
You weren’t alone for long.
“Couldn’t sleep either?” Bellamy’s voice rumbled behind you. He stepped into view, hands shoved into his pockets, his curls messy from a long day. He sat down beside you, close enough that his shoulder brushed yours.
You smiled faintly. “Guess not. Thought I’d… get some air.”
Bellamy leaned back on his hands, gazing up. “Hard to believe the world can look this peaceful when everything’s such a mess.”
The silence stretched between you, comfortable yet heavy. You stared at him from the corner of your eye, heart pounding. You’d been holding this in for too long. The stars felt like the only witnesses brave enough to hear it.
“Bellamy?” you whispered.
He turned, eyebrows raising. “Yeah?”
Your throat felt dry, but you pushed the words out anyway. “I… I care about you. More than I probably should.” You swallowed hard, eyes dropping to the ground. “I’ve tried to ignore it, but… I like you. A lot.”
The quiet was deafening. You risked a glance, expecting awkwardness—but Bellamy was staring at you, eyes wide, lips parted like he hadn’t expected it but had wanted to hear it all along.
Slowly, a smile tugged at his mouth. He shifted closer, tilting his head until his forehead brushed yours. “Took you long enough,” he murmured, his voice soft but laced with relief.
Your breath caught. “Wait… you—?”
“Yeah,” he said, cutting you off gently. His hand found yours in the grass, fingers intertwining. “I’ve felt the same for a while. Just didn’t know if you did.”
The world seemed to hold its breath as he leaned in, kissing you beneath the starlight. It was soft, warm, full of everything you’d both been holding back.
When you pulled away, stars still glittering above, Bellamy smirked lightly. “Guess the universe finally gave us a break.”
