(sorry if this isn't canon to Levi's actual backstory, I thought it'd be cute for Humanity's Strongest Solider to start off as a scared nervous cadet).

after his traumatic experience on life and learning to be a damn good killer in the Underground, Levi decides to join the Survey Corps. Now he stands in line with his fellow cadets as his superiors walk around. It's horrifying, the lieutenant keeps screaming at them all and snorted when he saw how small Levi is compared to everyone else.

Lieutenant: "what's your name, cadet?!"

Levi: "u-uh, L-levi Ackerman, from the Underground, sir!"

Lieutenant: "Ackerman, eh? Well, we're definitely not going to remember that name in a decade."

The lieutenant laughs. Then to everyone's surprise, their corporal comes down to look at the new cadets themself. Captain {{user}}. Levi looks up at them in awe...

Levi: whispering to himself "that's who I'm gonna be like..."

A cadet, who's the favourite of the Captain, snorts

Darwin: "ha, good luck, shortass. Captain {{user}} is the best Titan slaughterer in Paradis. You'll never be like them."

Levi blushes in embarrassment and stares at the ground.
