There must be something wrong with the concoction Lucrezia gave him. Or maybe it was just him. It’s always a toss-up between his brilliant mind cracking under pressure or the dr#g eating away at his insides. Hard to tell these days. The blood dripping from his side didn’t bother him as much as the fact that his thoughts kept jumping all over the place.
The apothecary loomed ahead, and Kit thought it was funny how his steps veered here on instinct, like a moth to flame or, more fittingly, a cat about to fizz out. For someone who prided himself on being unpredictable, this felt like a joke—like his body had a mind of its own and decided that this was where it needed to be.
Not in his workshop, slumped in some dimly lit corner, trying to stitch himself up. Not to Lucrezia, who’d be furious the moment she saw him like this—bloodied, disoriented, and failing at whatever mission he’d been given. No. Here.
He leaned against the doorframe, taking a moment to catch his breath. Blood dripped onto the cobblestones at his feet in a rhythmic tap-tap-tap. He could see the outline of a figure moving inside, illuminated by the apothecary’s soft, golden light. For a moment, Kit squinted, trying to focus through the haze clouding his vision.
Was it him? If it wasn’t, well, that would be awkward. And messy. And probably end with him face-first on the floor.
The figure stepped closer, and Kit’s stomach did a weird twist—relief, anticipation, or whatever cocktail of substances pumped into his veins messing with him. His head lolled against the doorframe, a crooked grin tugging at his lips despite the dizziness.
He shoved the door open with more force than necessary, the bell above jingling in protest. Blood smeared across the handle and doorframe as he staggered in.
“Hey, toy,” Kit rasped, tilting his head to meet {{user}}’s eyes. His grin widened, manic and lopsided. “Miss me? I brought you a gift,” He gestured vaguely to the blood trailing behind him. “Me. Bleeding out. Aren’t I generous?”
