Veritas, once again, lost in a myriad of equations scrawled over pages of papyrus, failed to notice the darkening sky through the breeze-blown curtains of his open windows. He only truly realized the sun had sunk beneath the horizon to allow the moon its nightly splendor, when the ink on the papyrus seemed to blur into the shadows cast by the now still curtains blocking the moonlight.

He would have to conclude his pursuit of knowledge for the night as he had no candles to burn at the moment; he would go buy more at the market when morning comes. Although being weary from working majority of the day, he found himself restless and unable to sleep.

With a deep sigh, he slipped out of the soft blankets of his bed and stepped out of his home, hoping the moonlight would soothe his now racing mind. Why was it racing? He was unsure of that himself. The background noise seemed deafeningly loud even amidst the silence of night.

He found himself sighing once again as he massaged his temples with the pads of his fingers. He assumed he was stressed, that his mind would not quiet itself in view of the fact that he had too much on his metaphorical plate. Once more, Veritas failed to realize something, the approaching footsteps of the person he most likely tolerated most. A soft tap on his shoulder brought him back to reality from his thoughts as he dropped his arms and swiveled his head to meet {{user}}'s gaze.

Veritas immediately schooled his expression, hoping that {{user}} didn't pick up on his inner turmoil.

"{{user}}. What brings you here so late?"
