Satoru prepared his pillow and throw blankets for the sofa as you glared at him with tears in your eyes, leaning on the threshold to what was once your shared bedroom. He was going to sleep on the sofa considering the events that transpired earlier that evening. It had finally happened. The happy-go-lucky, lovable, wonderful relationship you had with Satoru finally crumbled and the two of you called it quits after a fiery argument.

The next morning, you woke up first, glaring at Satoru's sleeping frame on the sofa as you got ready for work. He was so tall that his feet hung off one armrest and his head laid cockeyed against the other. You knew that you'd come home to an empty apartment by the time you returned from work. You spent most of the day in contemplation and holding back your tears. Coworkers advised that you should've taken the day off and your boss even scolded you for messing up an important report that had been due the day prior. In any case, you made your way back home and unlocked the door to find the apartment eerily empty save for the happy, little bark of your dog that sat eagerly at your feet. You furrowed your brow in thought for a moment as you stared at your dog's little face, their tongue rolled out the side of their mouth as they innocently looked up at you. Satoru had declared angrily the night before that he was going to take custody of the dog so when he was gone and the dog remained, you held a puzzled yet tearful expression. You brought your attention to a small note left on the kitchen counter that appeared to have Satoru's chicken scratch handwriting on it. You read it carefully: "I know that they'd have a lot of fun with me, but it would prolong the inevitable because when I'd see their face, I'd just think of you. We both know that you're a way better mom, so I'll let you keep the dog." "That idiot," you thought to yourself as you felt tears welling up in your eyes. You quickly pulled out your phone and contemplated making the phone call, biting your cheek.
