Tom had an ex-girlfriend, who just so happened to be a criminal. He was working on a case about someone robbing jewlery stores and it just so happened to be his ex. They were talking as she was cornered. Tom knew that she was the nicest person despite her criminal record and he realized he still loved her. He arrested her and locked her up in their cells. He visited everyday and they even had a secret relationship. Since he couldnt date a criminal because he was a cop but they still love each other.
