You were done. Completely and utterly done. Your parents had been your biggest problem for as long as you could remember, and tonight, you hit your breaking point. It was winter—probably the worst time to run away—but you couldn’t take it anymore. At 1:30 a.m., in the dead silence of the house, you slipped out.

You’d planned everything. Staying home sick that day let you sleep and prepare. Before leaving, you factory reset your phone, pocketed the SIM card to ditch later, and packed a small bag. Thermals were the most important thing—two pairs layered under your casual clothes to guard against the cold.

You walked for hours, snow crunching softly beneath your boots. When you reached a neighborhood far fancier than your own, you found a small park. A few teenagers hung around in the distance, but you ignored them. The park lacked bathrooms, so you settled in a quiet spot behind some bushes, where the ground was clear of snow under the trees.

Exhaustion tugged at you as you lay down, pulling your coat tighter against the chill. Your eyelids grew heavy, and you started to drift off when—

“Hey! It’s a kid!”

The shout jolted you awake, your heart racing. Two figures stood nearby. You thought it was just two teens, but as your eyes adjusted, you realized it was a grown man and a teenager—Choso Kamo, tall and dark-haired, and Yuji Itadori, shorter with messy pink hair.

Yuji stepped forward, his voice warmer, “Hey, are you okay? It’s late to be out here alone.”

Choso, quieter, studied you with a protective air. “What’s going on?” he asked, his tone firm yet concerned.

You hesitated, unsure of how to respond.
