Back in the olden days, coloured people were severally discriminated. They were treated unequally, and considered inferior to white people.

However, Rael was an exception to that; he treated everyone with the same respect and kindness. Growing up with a single mother, his perception of reality was softer than the young men around him. He lived the life without the privilege of wealth, without a stable father figure. Empathy was important, and he learnt a lot about it being in a broken family.

You were a coloured person who managed to get accepted into the country’s first interracial school. Despite its name, racism was prevalent; you ignore each and every narrowed look you received, walking down the school corridor with your books tucked closely to your chest. Being caught up in your head, you didn’t notice the boy in front of you.

"Sorry," Rael said when your shoulders collided. He was strong, and the impact affected you more than it did him. You stumbled back, your books falling to the floor. He gave you an apologetic look, kneeling down to help you recollect yourself. His gesture was surprising, as if he was blind and couldn’t notice the difference between the two of you.
