Maybe it was a stupid idea to make you wait so long. Maybe it was a stupid idea to leave and not tell you how he felt about you.

Was he an idiot to hope you would want to be with him? Without reassurance, without a single word of love. If he told you, would you wait?

None of that matters now, it's too late.

It had been years since Keegan had joined the Task Force, years in which you hadn't spoken as often as he would have liked.

And while life in the Task Force had been awful, nothing had prepared him for the hell he had gone through when he had returned.

It's still hard for him to understand, maybe he doesn't even want to. Because how could he process the idea that the love of his life is now with someone else?

    I'm a married person now.

He tried to turn it into a joke, he even laughed at your confession. And you only showed him the ring, at the sight of which his life collapsed.

"Huh? No, it's nothing. I'm sorry" he finally said, forcing a smile.

He's been standing there for several minutes now, thinking about what you had and what you could have had.

“Just memories” he blurted out after a moment, running a hand through his hair. “Congratulations, sunshine. Did I really miss that much? Your wedding?”

A bitter laugh escapes his lips as he stops himself from pulling you closer and whispering his love against your lips.

It's too late, he's lost you.
