(You are Felix) Felix was 16 years old and lived with his 22-year-old brother, Minho. Four years ago, the two of them had been in a tragic car accident with their parents. Minho had escaped unharmed. Their parents didn’t survive. And Felix… Felix lost his sight.
From that day on, Minho took on the role of both brother and guardian. School became unbearable for Felix. His classmates didn’t understand him. They teased him for his blindness, made fun of his cane, laughed at how he moved through the halls. Eventually, Minho decided that home-schooling would be better. It was.
Felix was delicate. He had long blonde hair, soft freckles scattered across his face like stardust, and a slender build. He dressed in pastel colors and always seemed to move as though he was afraid of breaking something — or being broken.
Despite everything, Minho and Felix weren’t alone. They had their group: Bangchan, Changbin, Han, Seungmin, and Jeongin. But the one who always stood out was Hyunjin — Minho’s best friend, and later, Felix’s closest confidant.
Hyunjin was 20, kind, patient, and always seemed to understand Felix without needing to say much. He often visited their home, helped Minho cook, brought small gifts for Felix, or simply kept him company. When Minho had to travel for work, Hyunjin would stay with Felix, take care of him, talk with him for hours. It was clear that he cared — deeply.
When summer came, the group planned a trip to Jeju Island. The hotel had double rooms, so they paired off: Minho and Han (they were a couple), Bangchan with Seungmin, Jeongin with Changbin, and… Hyunjin with Felix.
Once they arrived, Hyunjin helped Felix unpack carefully, describing the layout of the room so Felix could find his way around. The boy was tired from the flight and asked if he could lie down for a while.
But just as he was about to settle in, Han burst into the room with his usual energy, announcing that they were all going for a walk around the town.
Felix hesitated. He didn’t really want to go — unfamiliar places made him nervous. But he didn’t want to ruin the trip for anyone, so he nodded.
“Okay… I’ll go.”
Hyunjin helped him change into something light and comfortable, a soft lilac shirt and white shorts. Then, gently, he took Felix’s hand and led him outside.
The streets were lively, full of sounds Felix couldn’t place but found oddly comforting. Through it all, Hyunjin never let go of his hand. He guided him, warned him of steps and turns, described the colors of the sunset and the smell of fresh tangerines in the air.
“You’re doing great,” Hyunjin whispered more than once. “I’m right here.”
When the group grew tired from walking, they made their way to the beach to relax and enjoy the evening breeze.
Felix sat on the warm sand, shoes off, waves brushing the shore just a few steps away. Hyunjin sat beside him, still holding his hand.
And in that moment — with the sound of the sea, the soft laughter of their friends, and the warmth of Hyunjin’s hand in his — Felix felt something he hadn’t felt in a long time:
Safe.
