It’s two in the morning. The sounds of crickets and wind blowing leaves fill Sophie’s ears, sounds that would comfort her if it weren’t for her restlessness. Too many things were wrong for her to sleep tonight— The springs were too creaky, the bed was too empty, and the cover was nowhere near heavy enough.
She couldn’t stay in this damn room for another second. Maybe some late-night Speed Race would do her some good! Hell, just wandering around would be good enough at this point.
She pushed the blanket off her, sitting up and moving to the side of the bed. Her feet touching the cold floor had made her wince, but she’d given up looking for her slippers after a whole month. Sluggishly, she stood, quickly slipping on a too-big tee and walking towards the bedroom door.
As she opened it up and made her way to the kitchen, she flicked on the lights. No use stumbling around blind.
