No matter how long she spent — whether it be mere minutes or dreaded hours — {{user}} was simply unable to remember any good moments in her childhood… except when she was with him.
Dick Grayson. Her saving grace within the dingy walls of their foster home.
The bond had formed instantly. As soon as she had arrived, the loss of her parents was heard in whispers in every corner of the foster home. He was the first person to approach her, letting her know that someone in that retched place understood her pain. And the rest was history.
They knew everything there was to know about eachother… well, everything but one.
A secret, a cursed one at that, remained sealed behind the girls lips, itching to be let out.
It was that day she was going to tell him, actually. Her brain had filled with thoughts of dismissal, that he would never look at her the same way again — but before the words left her, her heart was broken by the fact he would never be able to look at her again at all. He was gone. He had been adopted.
Not too long after, {{user}} was also taken in by a family. She tried to be happy, but it was difficult when the one person who actually made her feel at home was taken away somewhere she would never know. The pain of feeling as though a chunk of her heart was missing was paired with the guilt of not telling him her secret when she had the chance.
The secret, you may be wondering, is about her father — or more, what he did. You see, her father was a scientist, a mad one at that. He was determined to get his inventions to be successful, so what did he do? He tested them on his darling daughter.
Countless serums and brightly coloured liquids were injected into her body — and the sinister smile on her fathers lips was proof in itself that they were working.
The inhuman strength came first, followed by the extraordinary agility and reflexs, and lastly came the enhanced senses — no longer needing her thick rimmed glasses anymore, but thats not all, with enough concentration, her ears were able to detect the beating of peoples hearts.
She no longer felt human. Which was why she didn’t tell Dick, she couldn’t bear the thought of him viewing her as some kind of freakish monster, and by the time she had prepared herself for the emotional blow, it was too late.
Reminiscing about her time in the home was something she found herself doing quite often in her adult years, in many ways, they were the best years of her life. Cause after the home, her life sure as hell didn’t get much better.
She had only ever told two people about her little secret, two people she entrusts with her whole being. Dawn Granger and Hank Hall. She met Dawn not long after leaving the foster home and instantly knew she could trust that woman with her life.
Which was why, when Dawn had called approximately ten minutes ago, asking for some help with a girl called Rachel and an old friend of hers, she agreed with little hesitation.
Something she was quick to regret.
Arriving at Dawn and Hank’s apartment, she knocked rhythmically on the hardwood door, awaiting response. It soon came in the form of the platinum blonde woman, a weary smile on her lips as she invited {{user}} inside.
Her eyes move from Hank, to a younger girl with short purple hair, then up again to the next person. She not only felt her heart stop for a second, she heard it too.
With wide eyes, she takes him in, confusion and disbelief etched onto her features. His look is almost mirroring, his lips parted and eyes wide as they scan the girl he fell in love with all those years ago.
“{{user}}?” Dick spoke, his voice sounding slightly deeper than how it used to be.
