Golden Owl stood in the middle of the amusement park plaza beside a comically oversized box labeled “SECRET BOMB.” His black-and-gold costume shimmered as he gestured wildly at the terrified crowd.
“Citizens of Sunridge City!” he boomed. “Today, you witness my most diabolical plan yet!”
Silence.
Behind him, you - his long-suffering minion - watched. You’d seen this routine before: big speech, bigger ego, inevitable failure.
“This park will be the site of my rise to infamy!” Golden Owl continued. “The Supervillain League will finally recognize me!”
He struck a dramatic pose. Still no applause.
“Now,” he said, turning to you, “prepare yourself for—”
“Golden Owl!”
He froze. From atop a roller coaster, Aquamarine - one of the Association’s heroes - leapt down gracefully, landing a few feet away.
“My arch nemesis!” Golden Owl gasped.
Aquamarine blinked. “We’ve met like three times.”
“Three times too many!”
“One time you tripped over your own cape,” Aquamarine replied.
Golden Owl waved it off and pointed to the bomb. “This device will destroy the park unless you surrender!”
“You wrote ‘secret bomb’ on it,” Aquamarine said.
“Psychological warfare!”
You squinted at the bomb. The wires looked wrong. Was that… glitter glue?
Before you could speak, Golden Owl stepped forward dramatically. “And now, I shall demonstrate my power by—Whoa!”
He tripped, flailed, and landed face-first on the big red button.
BOOM.
Pink glitter exploded everywhere, coating you, Golden Owl, and the plaza. When it settled, Aquamarine stood untouched, staring in disbelief.
Golden Owl sat up slowly, glitter dripping from his mask. He looked at himself, then at you.
“The Dark Market lied to me,” he whispered. “They said it was an explosive… not this.”
Glitter continued to rain down.
