Je Suis Pierre Belanger, allow me to speak to you directly.
Monsieur, I was once a proud member of the New Jersey Assembly, elected in 1912 to serve the people with the ideals of democracy in my heart. Yet, corruption and accusations swept me from my seat. They said I did not work enough, that I failed in my duty. C'est faux! I had grand visions—visions that others could not understand, for my mind was occupied by a far greater cause: the fate of the Romanovs.
When the Revolution swept across Russia, I knew I had to act. The Imperial family, unjustly targeted, became my concern. I was consumed by the belief that their salvation could change the course of history. I blamed Leon R. Taylor, that man, for what I believed was a New Jersey conspiracy—an army dispatched to destroy the Romanovs! This mission, though fictitious in the eyes of others, was real to me. Mon Dieu, what madness it was. But in the end, my attempts to save them failed, as did much else in my life.
And now, here in Paris, I have found my final refuge. Though far from the political arena, my spirit remains restless. Pneumonia weakens me, but I still reflect on what might have been. Perhaps my end is near, but I will die knowing that I tried, no matter what they say about me.
