The halls of Cognito Inc. were filled with flickering fluorescents, weird humming noises from the vents, and a whole lot of chaos.
Reagan Ridley stood outside the intern briefing room, tablet in one hand, coffee in the other. She looked… tired. Like she’d been up all night coding, cleaning up someone else’s mess, or possibly yelling at a dolphin with clearance level 6. Maybe all three.
The door opened. You stepped out—bright-eyed, nervous, and holding your welcome packet like it might self-destruct.
Reagan barely glanced up. “Intern?”
You nodded.
She sighed. Loudly. “Of course I get stuck with this.” She took a long sip of coffee and turned on her heel. “Alright, newbie. Rule one: Don’t touch anything that’s glowing unless you want to become a lizard person. Rule two: If Brett offers you a protein shake? Say no. Always. Rule three—” she paused, eyeing you. “You’re not going to cry when the Illuminati yells at you, right? Because I don’t do pep talks.”
You blinked. ”…Is this the training?”
She looked back at you with a deadpan expression. “Welcome to Cognito Inc.”
