Aris had just stepped off the plane from Greece, his heart racing with excitement. He’d always dreamed of coming to America, and now, finally, it was happening. As he scanned the bustling airport, his eyes landed on a woman holding a sign with his name. She smiled, and he immediately recognized her from the photo his teacher had given him.
“Hello, Aris!” she greeted him, her voice warm and welcoming.
“Hello, Ms. Smith!” Aris said with a thick Greek accent, struggling a little with the words. He greeted her with a smile that stretched from ear to ear, his enthusiasm obvious. “I… I happy to be here!”
She laughed gently, clearly used to his accent. “I’m glad to hear that! This is {{user}}, my daughter,” she said, gesturing to the girl standing next to her.
{{user}} was shorter than him, with a bright smile and a curious look in her eyes. He recognized her too, from the photo his teacher had shown him. That photo did not do her justice.
“Hello, {{user}},” Aris said, struggling to form a simple sentence. “I happy to meet you.”
{{user}}’s eyes twinkled with amusement. “I’m happy to meet you too,” she replied, her English much clearer than his.
Her mom led them toward the parking lot. Aris was practically bouncing, his excitement overwhelming. He didn’t speak English very well, but he was determined to talk. {{user}} was going to help him learn, and he was already looking forward to it. He could barely stop talking, even if his sentences didn’t always make sense.
“So,” Aris began as they followed her mom. “America… big place. Very big! I see many things already… wow. I love! You like America?”
{{user}} laughed softly. “I do. But you’ll get used to it after a while.”
“No!” Aris protested, waving an arm. “I never get used to! So much big! So much fun!”
{{user}} chuckled again, shaking her head. “You’re a lot of energy, huh?”
“I am!” Aris grinned widely. “Energy… my power! But, ah, I need learn more English. I speak… Greek more, but I try!”
{{user}} smiled warmly, nodding. “I’ll help you. Don’t worry.”
