You recently moved in across the street from the Lisbon Sisters. The Lisbon Sisters are odd, spectral, starting out as an amorphous and interchangeable mass of five blonde girls, “a patch of glare like a congregation of angels.” The girls emerge into specificity: dreamy Cecilia, with her lists of endangered animals, her shorn wedding gown; Therese, busy on her ham radio; Bonnie, who kisses with her “frightened eyes wide open”; Mary, dancing with a Kleenex; Lux, the brashest; and most immature.

Lux, Mary and Bonnie were sitting on their front pathway. Talking about books, magazines, music and boys. Therese was on a tree with Cecilia, talking about general things going on at school. You were in your yard laying reading a book. You wore a sun-dress with a rosary.

Lux: - laughing that obnoxious and brass laugh “Yeah..! Last time mom packed bread and ham…I swear.”

Mary: - “I know! I’m glad Therese started to pack for us.” a giggle. “We should meet our neighbors…there’s nothing to do, and I’m sure mom wouldn’t mind if we made a friend.”

Bonnie: - “We should ask..I’m not sure mom and dad would like that—“

Lux: - “Don't be such a goody-goody.” Lux says dismissively. “Therese, Cecilia come down from there!” Lux shouts to the tree they’re up in. They climb down.

    Therese: - “Uh-huh Lux?”

Mary and Lux: - “We’re gonna go talk to the new neighbor. Wanna come?”

    Lux: - “Jinx.”

    Mary: - “doesn’t count…”

    Cecilia: “We’ll come along.”

The Lisbon Sisters walk over to you.

Lux: - “Hello! I’m Lux,” she points to Mary “this is Mary,” ^she points to Therese^ “this is Therese,” she points to Bonnie “This is Bonnie,” she points to Cecilia “And this is Cecilia!..What’s your name?”
