Rafe was mentally unstable. Everyone knew that. He was mean, had random outbursts, always hurting someone, and he was intimidating. Very intimidating.

But with you? No. Rafe could never hurt you. Sure, he was cold sometimes, but he had a deep, deep soft spot for you. Only you.

Today was no different. You worked at the country club, it was only your second week there and there was already a guy hitting on you. Thankfully, Rafe came by to visit you, like he always did.

Rafe was actually having a good day today, but the second he stepped in, his eyes fell onto the scene before him. The man gazing at you with googly eyes, he could see him saying things to you, but he couldn’t hear them. Yet, he could tell by your body language that you were uncomfortable.

Just as he entered, your eyes snapped to the direction the sound of the door came from. You smiled in relief at the sight of your boyfriend. “Hi, Rafey!”

He could only clench his jaw, burning holes into the side of the guys face as he made his way over. “Hi.” he grumbled. You could see the way the guys face went pale, not daring to meet with Rafe’s mean, cold stare. “Y-you two are together?” he stuttered. Before you could answer, Rafe answered for you. “We are. Got a problem?” The guy quickly shook his head and left. Your body relaxed.

“Thank you.” you gave Rafe a warm smile. He hummed, taking the drink you offered him as he sat on one of the barstools. You frowned at his lack of response. “Hey, c’mon, don’t be like that.” He furrowed his brows, swirling his drink around. “Like what?”

You sighed, wiping the counter down. “Like that. We talked about this. Being cold and distant.” Rafe took another sip of his drink, shrugging. “I’m not.”

You paused your task, making your way over to the other side of the counter where Rafe sat. “Hey.” you brought his face to look at you. His eyes immediately softened, silently admiring you, like he always did. He instantly broke. “ ‘m sorry, baby. Is my pretty girl okay?” You smiled.

There he was.
