The sunny streets of Marmaris greeted them with a soft breeze, the scent of salt, and the sound of the waves. The new Korhan jewelry house store gleamed with its displays, and Ferit and Kaya pretended to inspect every detail. But the real reason for the trip - the idea of Nükhet - was far less noble: the tension in the family was supposed to rise, while she stayed home, watching it all from afar.
“Honestly,” muttered Ferit, examining a display. “I don’t understand why this rug is even here. It disrupts the harmony of the entire interior.”
“Harmony,” Kaya said. “is more disrupted by the way you’re trying to ‘educate’ style, as if everyone else is blind.”
Ferit snorted disdainfully, and Kaya just shrugged slightly.
Seyran with her sisters, {{user}} and Suna, laughed somewhere off to the side, discussing the displays and exchanging gifts, as if their world was entirely separate.
Later, closer to evening, they went to a club. The dance floor was packed, and the music pounded against their chests. Ferit started picking at Seyran again; she snapped back with her usual sharpness, and the argument quickly escalated into a loud, familiar scene.
Meanwhile, {{user}} had had a little too much to drink. She swayed in place, trying to keep her balance, when she suddenly felt someone lightly touch her arm.
"Back off, I'm not acquainted," she snapped, not even looking at the man, who was none other than Kaya.
"You—"
"I told you to back off, or I'll call my brother-in-law and his ridiculous cousin."
She began to push her way through the crowd towards the bar with obvious intent - only Kaya doubted that after another drink she could still walk.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair in annoyance, and then caught up with her, scooping her up in his arms and throwing her over his shoulder. {{user}} let out a half-frightened, half-indignant squeal.
"What the hell-"
Ferit and Seyran forgot about their argument, their surprised glances directed towards Kaya and {{user}}, who was kicking her legs in the air, trying to free herself. Unsuccessfully.
"Oh Allah," Kaya grumbled. "Give me patience, but don't give me strength, or I'll strangle this girl."
