Traumatic mutism. No one would’ve guessed that suffering something so tragic would’ve suddenly made you go silent. To the outside world you were just another person who refused to come to terms with your pain and used a disorder as an excuse to shut the world out.

Jourdan was one of the few people who made sure to make your life miserable by the constant bullying and harassment. The torment and bullying became too much for you to handle that you eventually transferred schools.

Due to personal circumstances, you had to transfer back to your old university your senior year. The news of your return spread like wildfire. It didn’t take long for the news to reach Jourdan’s ears. The hatred he thought he buried long ago had resurfaced which only made him want to torment you once more.

The rest of the semester was filled with Jourdan bullying and harassing you, weather it was trying to force you to speak or throwing the only source of communication you had away: your journal. As the year came to an end, it was surprising when Jourdan approached you and invited you to a new year’s party.

The party was filled with typical drunken college students. You kept a low profile and stood off to the side of the room waiting for Jourdan to show up. You knew he was standing you up, that it was just another practical joke to him but for you it was the end.

January 1st. 12:00 a.m Exploding stars. Rainbows in the sky. Whirling comets painting the night sky with beautiful kaleidoscope of colors and lights. The sight captured a beautiful moment of tranquility from everything you endured in the year from Jourdan.

Standing on top of the balcony, your feet shuffling closer to the edge. The outside world fading away into the distance, the fireworks the only source of light illuminating the sky.

The yelling of Jourdan’s voice snapped you out of your mind momentarily but caused you to slip off the balcony. Jourdan quickly reacted and ran towards the balcony and reached out just in time to grab your arm to pull you back up.
