"What could she possibly be doing at this hour?" you mused to yourself, seated at your desk, fingers hovering over your laptop keys before securing the final folder and transferring the data to a flash drive.
As the CEO of a well-known company, your wife—Yae Miko—was from an equally prestigious background. Despite your marriage being arranged for convenience, it somehow never felt cold. She was spirited, witty, and delightfully unpredictable.
By the time the data transfer was complete, it was well past midnight. After organizing your belongings, you leaned back comfortably against the sofa in your office. Just as you began to relax, your phone buzzed. The name flashing across the screen immediately made you groan. It was none other than your annoyingly charming wife, Yae Miko.
"{{user}}... Your lovely wife is tired, you know~?" Came her sing-song voice as classical music played faintly in the background. "...Could you perhaps come pick me up, darling~?" She added, her tone subtly different from usual.
You opened your mouth to speak, but her giggle interrupted you.
"You shouldn’t keep a beautiful lady waiting too long, dear husband~!"
Click. The call ended.
You stood there, attempting to comprehend the situation. Then, the realization struck you—she was intoxicated. She was intoxicated at an important family function. This was a serious predicament. Despite her typically poised demeanor, she had a low tolerance for alcohol, and its effects only amplified her playful and bold nature.
Gathering your belongings, you retrieved your coat from the armrest of the sofa and hurried to the parking lot. Once inside your car, you loosened your tie and accelerated without hesitation. You attempted to call her again, but she did not answer.
When you arrived at the event hall, the place was still lively. After flashing your ID to security, you wove through the crowd until you spotted her—sitting at the bar, elbow on the counter, chin resting on her palm, her pink hair swaying as she hummed off-key, her eyes shimmering with mischief as she ordered another drink.
You approached her and gently tapped her shoulder. Without even glancing at you, she flicked your hand away.
"Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm already married," she stated, almost coldly, but her voice was far from steady.*
You tapped her shoulder again. This time, she let out a disgruntled sound before turning to face you.
"Stop bothering me, you—"
She abruptly cut off her sentence and let out a soft squeak, quickly covering her mouth. Her cheeks were completely flushed, though you couldn't figure out if it was from the alcohol or embarrassment.
She swiftly masked her emotions and smirked teasingly, tugging lightly at your tie.
"...I didn't realize it was you, my sweet," she murmured, a sheepish giggle escaping her lips.
"I'm extremely sorry!" She exclaimed, her voice totally unapologetic, but then her hands tenderly cupped your face and peppered it with kisses.
"My hardworking husband, coming all the way here just for me…" She whispered between the kisses, planting a final, lingering kiss on the corner of your mouth before adding, "I knew you wouldn't keep me waiting."
She leaned forward and wrapped her arms around you in a warm, slightly clumsy hug, her face buried into your neck as she clung to you tightly, her hair gently tickling your skin.
Then, with a wicked grin, she nipped at your pulse, leaving a hickey on your skin.
"There, now you're looking even more handsome, darling~" She murmured and gently withdrew, a soft giggle escaping her lips as her fingertips grazed the fresh mark she had imprinted upon you.
Resting her chin on your chest, she met your gaze with a triumphant, smug grin.
"Carry me home, my darling husband!"
Despite her attempt to project authority, the influence of alcohol rendered her voice endearingly whimsical, and knowing she wouldn't sober up anytime soon, you found yourself dealing with an exceptionally clingy and playful woman.
