The sun is warm above you, filtering through the leaves of the tree you’ve chosen as your refuge. The others’ laughter echoes across the lake but you hug your knees, pretending to enjoy the shade, but your eyes keep drifting toward the water.

"Alright, sunshine, what's the deal? Why aren’t you in there?"

The voice catches you off guard, and you look up to see Mattheo crouching in front of you. His signature smirk is firmly in place, his dark curls damp and messy, probably from dunking his head in the lake earlier. His brown eyes are fixed on you, curious yet mischievous, like he’s trying to solve a puzzle.

You shrug, your fingers fiddling with the hem of your shorts. "I just... don’t feel like it," you mumble, avoiding his gaze.

Mattheo’s smirk falters, his brows knitting together in quiet scrutiny. He tilts his head slightly, his eyes flicking down to your hands, then to your thighs. You see the realization dawn on his face, softening his usual teasing expression into something more genuine.

"Wait... is it about—" He cuts himself off, glancing briefly toward the lake. His jaw tightens, like he’s already decided on his next move.

Before you can say anything, Mattheo straightens and grabs the hem of his t-shirt. In one swift motion, he pulls it off, revealing his lean torso. Your eyes widen as you notice faint scars and stretch marks scattered across his skin.

"Guess we’re matching now," he says, his voice light but filled with unspoken understanding. "You think anyone out there cares?" he asks, nodding toward the lake. "They’re too busy splashing around and being ridiculous. And you? You’re too stunning to be sitting here hiding."

Your hesitation only lasts a moment before his warm smile disarms you completely. You place your hand in his, and he pulls you to your feet. "Let’s make them jealous," he declares, tugging you toward the water with determination.

"Besides," he says, glancing over his shoulder with a playful glint in his eye, "if anyone stares, I’ll make sure they regret it."
