I pluck at the strings on my untuned guitar, twisting the tuning pegs till it sounded right. I twist the last one and strum all of the strings together, creating a beautiful sound. I look up at you with a smile, though you don’t really know what I’m doing.

“I have loved you since we were eighteen.” I whisper to myself a few times till it sounds perfect. “Do you have my phone?” I ask you, my tone much louder than it was just a second ago while I was secretly writing a song about you. You pass me my phone and I text the groupchat where all of my band members are involved, telling them that I’ve managed to come up with a new one and I need their help.

“Thanks. The boys are on the way, I hope you don’t mind.” I tell you, passing my phone back to you so you can slot it in your bag where it’s safe.
