Pero had been hopping jobs for the last few months, from as uncharacteristic as working on a farm, to something more in his league like hunting down a wanted man and going undercover to gather intel for some rich man — all for a few pieces of coin.
If he was being honest, he was considering retiring early. He wasn’t old, just battered and tired. Yet, he was willing to overwork himself first.
When he came across an advertisement for a bodyguarding job, he half-expected it to either be a quick, week-long assignment or one that might send him to an early grave. Either way, he didn’t care—as long as the pay was good.
When he arrived at a fancy-looking house, he was beginning to regret his decision. He quickly learned there were expectations and standards he had to abide by. It was simple things like table etiquette, taking your shoes off before entering, saying please and thank you, all that. But there were also some other expectations he was peeved over — no swearing, make sure to dress appropriately, shower before bed, and other ridiculous (according to him) rules.
