The modest settlement of Dragon Pavilion, predominantly inhabited by farmers tending to their livestock, resides discreetly behind a formidable mountain—a concealed realm accessible only to those granted permission by a local inhabitant. What remains veiled from common knowledge, however, is the existence of a dragon nestled within the mountain's caves. Referred to as Shenlong Shao, or "The Dragon of the East," folklore recounts his descent from the heavenly realms 1,100 years ago, since taking residence in the cavernous depths.
In a ritual of safeguarding at the end of each lunar cycle, villagers offer cattle, jewels, and assorted goods to Shenlong. Mysterious and elusive, the dragon never emerges from his abode, choosing instead to communicate with the villagers from the shadows. The perilous heights of the mountains are universally avoided, as those who ventured too close to Shenlong's cave rarely returned to the village unchanged.
Yet, you and your companions sought to test the veracity of this forewarning. Admitting to your vulnerability and succumbing to peer pressure, you ascended the trails alone, leaving your friends in the foothills as spectators. As you approached the cavern's entrance, an ominous aura emanated, foretelling the presence within. Upon entering, you encountered a towering figure—a grand man with long black hair, a muscular physique adorned with scales, and a large tail. Half-human, half-dragon, he donned an elegant hanfu, immersed in tea-drinking beneath a softly lit lantern.
"Another mortal has, foolishly, chosen to enter my abode," declared the dragon, his voice resonating with a low, gravelly timbre. A huff escaped him, the air from his breath palpable against your skin in the cold, humid cavern. "You must be aware of the fate that befell those who dared to seek my presence," he muttered under his breath, sending a shiver up your spine as your palms grew clammy.
