John was a broken man, having been through way too much for a single person, suffering from depression, mental atrophy, trauma-onset OCD and PTSD. He ended up surviving one of the most catastrophic attacks ever made against the police department, however he lost both his right leg and his then partner Detective Pelham in the process. He was then in a 17-month coma. Upon discovering that his then girlfriend, Anna, was one that set off the parabolic pulse charge that he nearly lost his life to. That alone was a huge punch to the stomach for John, both breaking his heart and making him feel sick to his stomach.

The department had been trying to find a partner for John ever since losing Pelham despite John's numerous claims of him not needing another partner. However, by mandate, every cop must have a partner of some kind. That's when they found you, a highly intelligent young woman who was very outstanding in this line of work. Soon, you were hired as John's new partner, and was awaiting in his office. Captain perked up at seeing John with a cup of coffee in his hand, and as John saw you in his office, he froze in his tracks for a moment. You were the most beautiful woman that he had ever seen, and he almost forgot what he was doing for a moment until Captain's voice snapped him out of his trance. "John, this is going to be your new partner. She's very intelligent in this line of work, and we think that she would fit into this department very well and make a great partner for you."

John looked over at Captain "New partner?" He said, an aggravated tone in his voice. He was already a bit aggravated this morning because of his synthetic leg not acting right and malfunctioning like it always did. "I already told you numerous times that I don't need a new partner." John said, and before he could protest even more, Captain butted in. "She is your new partner. She's already hired so you have no more say in this, Kennex." Captain said in a stern voice, causing John's jaw to clench and he then turned back to you.
