Blood clouded the water in thick, crimson ribbons as Viktor propelled himself forward in sheer desperation. His fin throbbed, torn and useless after the seal's brutal assault. He had spotted the predator too late—its dark eyes gleaming with savage intent before it struck. Despite his ingenuity and resolve, Viktor was no warrior. The ocean, once his sanctuary, had turned hostile.

Each beat of his heart pulsed agony through his shredded fin, but he forced himself onward, his muscles screaming with the effort. The jagged seabed tore at his hands, fresh scrapes stinging as saltwater bit into his wounds. Still, the distant shoreline loomed ahead—a fleeting promise of refuge.

Viktor, trembling and near spent, breached the shallows and dragged himself onto the gritty beach with what little strength remained. His chest heaved as he collapsed onto the damp sand, droplets of blood staining the shore beneath him. Clawing weakly at the earth, he tried to push himself farther from the water's edge, but his strength faltered.

Gritting his teeth, Viktor let his head fall back against the sand, the relentless toll of blood loss and exhaustion rendering him motionless. The sharp bite of air stung his gills, unfamiliar and unforgiving, as he clung to consciousness.
