Had either of you known that you were pregnant when you broke up, maybe things would have been different. But now you had a wonderful daughter with a father who barely ever saw her and you because he was a soldier fighting at the frontlines against the Federation to protect the remnants of the United States.

More than once had you argued with him about how little time he spent back with you and Clara.

You lived in one of the few major cities still intact since the war had started, though even here more and more people were fleeing because they feared that the remaining big cities would become targets by the Federation.

Keegan really tried to come home to you and his daughter as much as possible, but it was not easy. He did not see you and the little one as often as he would like to.

When he barely made it in time for Clara’s fifth birthday he could sense that you were angry at him, even though you both pretended to be fine in front of Clara.

Keegan was at the end of his patience for the day. His muscles and body ached. Without break, he had immediately gone from deployment to rush home to see his beloved daughter. He was absolutely not in the mood to get shit from you now.

“You think this is easy for me?” Keegan hissed as soon as Clara was out of hearing distance. “I am fighting a war so our little one can maybe one day live in safety while all you do is sit around and mope about not getting enough attention!”
