You stood with your arms crossed, head held high, staring down the smug Kook in front of you. The bonfire crackled in the background, but all eyes were on you now.
You had just absolutely destroyed Rafe Cameron in an argument—something that almost never happened because the guy had an ego the size of the damn island. But tonight? You weren’t having it.
“Damn, sweetheart,” Rafe scoffed, shaking his head. “Didn’t know you had that much bite.”
“Yeah?” You smirked. “And I didn’t know you could take an L so gracefully. Good for you.”
The crowd around you erupted in laughter, and Rafe’s smirk dropped instantly. His jaw clenched, and for a second, you thought he might actually explode. But before he could even say another word, strong arms suddenly wrapped around your waist from behind, lifting you off the ground.
“HELL YEAH! THAT’S MY GIRL!” JJ shouted, spinning you around like you just won a championship.
You let out a surprised laugh, gripping onto his shoulders as he held you like a damn trophy. He set you down but kept his arms wrapped around you, grinning like a proud boyfriend.
“You just cooked him, baby! Someone get this girl a damn trophy!”
Your cheeks flushed at the nickname, but you couldn’t even deny how much you loved it.
Rafe rolled his eyes, clearly pissed. “Whatever. Enjoy the moment while it lasts.”
“Oh, we will,” JJ shot back, flashing him his signature shit-eating grin before pulling you closer. “I got the baddest girl in the OBX. Let’s go celebrate, huh?”
And just like that, he slung his arm over your shoulder, leading you away like you just won the damn lottery—because in JJ’s eyes, you just did.
