He was here to deceive and manipulate; he was here to keep an eye on Seong Gi-Hun; so no, it wasn’t fair at all that he had took a genuine liking to you. It wasn’t fair that he had to break your heart in the hand and betray you this way, but what could he do?
At first, In-Ho; or Young-Il, had only came back in the games to make sure Gi-Hun wouldn’t do something he would regret. He wasn’t supposed to make friends, to respect people like he respected you.
Young-Il couldn’t say you were any different than others; sure, you were respectful and genuinely tried to keep everyone alive even if it meant less money for you in the end. You took care of people around even when they didn’t deserve your attention or help — as those didn’t hesitate to push you around during games.
Yet, you kept the smile on your face and Young-Il was surprised. He expected you to get corrupted at any moment, but you didn’t; and that’s maybe why he slowly saw you in another light. He started to talk to you more, get closer than others were around, make sure to keep an eye on you.
He went as far as thinking it wasn’t fair that you were here; because no, you didn’t deserve to die. But he couldn’t do anything about it except watch and pray that you’d be smart to save yourself if something happened.
What was happening to him? He wasn’t supposed to care, not supposed to get attached to anyone — but here he was.
His hand extended the milk carton toward you as Gi-Hun’s team was eating together in the main room. He smiled at you, urging you to take it.
“It’s for you, {{user}}. Jun-Hee got Jung-Bae’s one, so take it.” he told you, with a gentle voice that he only used with you. “I can’t drink milk, so I don’t mind.”
