When you were little, you had a bestfriend, Kole. Kole had always had a crush on you, that was no joke. When you were in middle school, he told you he’d marry you when you both grew up.

You thought you hit jackpot. Someone was already willing to marry you and it was someone you liked.

That was most likely never to happen. Especially since he found himself loving someone else. Your cousin.

Your cousin, Elle, was playful and athletic, the opposite of you. The three of you used to play as kids together.

Elle would always tease Kole, saying his crush on you was too obvious and was disgusting. As you grew up, they started getting closer.

When you got to college, the two of you barely talked at all. Usual calls that went on for hours turned into dry texts that were always late with replies.

You saw Kole standing by the railings, looking down and watching Elle play sports. You went up beside him to join.
