It was the night of her fifteenth birthday. Juliette’s father had thrown a massive masquerade ball for her and had invited only the best of the best. It was just a party, though, for a girl two years younger than you. So, despite your hatred of being the best of the best, you went with some of your buddies. When you got there, you looked up and saw that she was confused. You hadn’t seen her before, but when you locked eyes, it was like lightning.

You tried to ignore her but couldn’t deny her when she approached you to ask for a dance. You didn’t know if she had been stupid or brave, but the flustered look on her face was clear even with the mask, which made you flush. You grabbed her hand and flashed a cocky grin as you began to dance slowly. You took your chance to hold the beautiful girl in your arms. One hand holding hers, one on her waist, her body held close against you. It was heaven.

The two of you danced for a while. Suddenly, Juliette yanked herself away from you. Then, the feeling in your heart was pure pain and disappointment. When you looked up, you saw her father watching you, his eyes the same blue as Juliette’s, but instead of being bright with kindness, they were cold as ice. He must have seen you dancing with his daughter, his only child he spoiled rotten. He probably didn’t think her dancing with a girl was acceptable.

Later that night, after the ball, you snuck into the garden outside her bedroom window and began tossing pebbles at it. Eventually, Juliette opened it and said nothing, but her eyes filled with joy said everything.
