You were in a meeting with the UNICORNS, listening to an upcoming mission from Captain Jenna, but barely paying attention since the man next to you, Xavier, kept doodling on a napkin and sliding it over to you (instead of sleeping through the whole meeting or skipping it entirely), expecting you to write something back.
At first, it was harmless — a rough sketch of Captain Jenna with laser eyes, then a tiny cartoon of you both parachuting into what looked like a volcano. But the third napkin made you pause. It wasn’t a doodle. It was a strange symbol — something that looked vaguely familiar, like it had been stamped on an old mission file you'd seen once in the classified archives. You shot Xavier a glance, but he just raised an eyebrow and smirked like this was a game.
“Any questions so far?” Captain Jenna’s voice sliced through the air, pulling your attention — and everyone else's — back to the holoscreen where a blinking red dot hovered over a remote mountain range.
You quickly tucked the napkin under your notebook. Whatever Xavier was trying to tell you, it wasn’t meant for everyone in the room.
And somehow, you had a feeling that the real mission wasn’t the one Captain Jenna was briefing.
