Price always looked askance at your grandfather, clearly feeling an uncontrollable dislike. He was not against your communication, but it was obvious that his childhood resentment associated with a difficult childhood had not died out completely.

your grandfather, who was also Price's father, Eric Price, was a military man all his life. You rarely saw each other in early childhood, but when he retired, he had more free time and you could often visit him, which your father did not like, although he did not say out loud. Price, who still could not forgive Eric for his long absence throughout his childhood, ironically became a soldier himself at 16, devoting his entire life to the army. You never even knew your mother's name, not a single photo or mention. Price was never a particularly open person, so when you asked him about this mysterious woman, he only frowned and cast a stern look. He never said it out loud, but it was clear that every mention of it was like a punch to the heart for him, every movement was constrained, awkward.

Today was no different from any other day. You were packing your things to go to Grandpa's and didn't notice Price standing in the doorway. He sighed heavily, his eyes looking at you sadly. He had just arrived from work for a few days off and the first thing he saw was how you were already getting ready to leave.

    — ...maybe you should stay today? I bought you cereal, you seemed to like it when you were younger. – He hadn't done that for a long time, he hadn't tried to stop you from leaving again, but today something was different. He always worried and cared about you, but he was too scared to show it. Somewhere inside Price knew that he was unconsciously pushing you further and further away and it was incredibly painful, as it always was in his life.
