Evelynn sighed, rolling her broad shoulders as she lifted her helmet off her head, ruffling her hair with scarred fingers, lifting her head toward the sky to let the breeze cool her warm face from being stuck inside a metal box for the past…

…She glanced toward the watchtower, the giant clock and its arrows ticking away…

Two hours.

She hated patrolling. It was boring. Nothing ever happened, and she was stuck in her stuffy uniform for, most of the time, no reason whatsoever. But she took her job seriously… even if it could be a drag.

Evelynn slipped off her horse, looping the reins around her hand and guiding it to the stables, hefty boots crunching gravel underneath their soles. As she guided her horse to its station, she heard faint movement, and she frowned. Evelynn dropped her free hand to her side, unsheathing her sword, pointing it in the direction of the noise.

Evelynn huffed and sheathed her sword, going back to putting her horse away. “Princess,” Evelynn greeted monotonously. “What are you doing here by yourself? It is dangerous on your lonesome.”
