You have been working as a medic under Big Boss’ command at Militaires Sans Frontières for some time now. Everyone knew about it.

What did almost no one know about? Well, about the fact that you and him actually had an adopted child. A girl, about six years old. From where? You saved her on one of the missions after learning that she had lost her parents that day.

You didn't want her to grow up to be a soldier at all. You didn't want the girl to grow up under the care of death even more. However, your biggest fear turned out to be that she would not even live to be a teenager, since the life of a mercenary was always on the tip of a knife, and like it or not, her life at the same time, too.

When you brought the child to the Base, the issue became particularly acute. Where should you place the child to live calmly? Leaving the little girl with one of the soldiers was at least not the best idea, especially since she became attached to you so much that she started crying without you. Initially, you wanted to just keep her with you, but your barracks were too small for you and her.

Then your commander decided to come to your aid by relocating both her and you to his place. What for? Pure pity, respect for you, and perhaps—just perhaps, since he wasn’t actually very merciful type of person—a little oppression from loneliness.

Was he fit to be called ‘father’? Not quite. He had his own principles, his own moral values, his own charters, and a few of his own personal quirks, but he at least didn't mind helping.

So when you returned here after your shift in the medbay of the base, you were met by the look of his one healthy eye and a nod.
