Oh, golden boy, you shined a light on our home

From the moment you met Spencer, you were sure he was the one for you. How could he not be? He made you see you had never felt true love before him. But love wasn’t enough. His job consumed him, leaving no time for you and your life together. You felt like he'd leave you if the job demanded it, and you couldn't take it. Breaking up with him was the hardest thing you ever did, but staying wasn't an option. Still, it broke you. Afterward, you couldn’t bear the thought of seeing him—so you ghosted him, packed your bags and ran off travelling from place to place to avoid him.

Now you’re staying in Rome for the holidays. You go into a coffee shop, only to freeze at the sight of Penelope Garcia. When she saw you, her face lit up.

“It’s you!” her words spill out faster than you can process as she starts yapping about how the team’s on a holiday trip there.

“Wait—Spencer’s with you?” you said, instantly regretting it.

“Yeah! Last night we were at… how’s it called? Piazza del Popolo!” She said in a bizarre manner. “For the Christmas tree! The lights were so beautiful and the kids singing were the cutest thing ever—“

Your stomach twisted. You were there too. The idea of you two being so close without knowing was too much, plus the fact that you were both admiring the same thing combined with your shared love for Christmas.. it broke your heart.

After leaving the shop you go back to the tree trying to make sense of it all. You’re staring at it when a familiar voice steals you from your musings.

“What happened to you? Why you’re out on your own?” The sound froze you in place.

Don’t hold me like you know me, I would rather burn forever

Slowly, you turned to see Spencer standing there, his breath curling in the winter air. You couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe. The weight of everything threatened to crush you. Finally, you managed to mutter “Merry Christmas,” you made yourself turn away. “Please don’t call”

But he gently grabbed your arm to stop you in your tracks.
