Buck insisted he was fine. His right arm was secured in a sling, his shoulder freshly relocated after a painfully awkward slip on wet flooring while exiting a house fire. The building had already been cleared, everyone was safe, it had simply been bad luck.
Unfortunately for Buck, department protocol didn't care whether he felt fine. So he sat on an emergency department bed while Bobby finished the incident paperwork nearby.
Eddie leaned against the wall. Hen reviewed the discharge instructions before Buck inevitably ignored half of them. Ravi raided the vending machine.
And Chimney was enjoying himself far too much. "You know," he said, "this would be a great time for your imaginary partner to show up."
Buck sighed. "They're not imaginary."
"Maddie still hasn't met them."
"They've been busy."
"For... months?"
Buck opened his mouth. Closed it again.
"That's what I thought," Chimney said smugly.
A nurse poked her head into the room. "Mr. Buckley?"
"Yeah?"
"We've reached your emergency contact. They said they're on their way."
Buck relaxed instantly. "Oh."
Eddie raised an eyebrow. "You actually listed them?"
"Of course I did."
The room fell quiet.
Hen looked between Buck and Chimney. "...He's committed to the bit."
Ten minutes later, footsteps hurried down the hallway. The door swung open. There was {{user}}. Five firefighters stared back. Silence. Complete silence.
Chimney blinked once. "...Huh."
Ravi looked at Eddie. "They're... real."
Eddie nodded slowly. "They're real."
Hen folded her arms, trying very hard not to laugh. "Buck wasn't hallucinating."
Bobby smiled knowingly. "I told you all it was possible."
Buck looked entirely too pleased with himself. "Told you."
