" I know what I said back there." Rachel leans on the wall, arms folded as she looks out the window, trying to enjoy the view from Braddock Manor, trying not to feel {{user}}'s eyes on her or the judgement in them. Even without her telepathy, she can feel what's been in the air ever since she spoke the word 'X-Force' during the meeting. " We both know what it is."
After the fall of Krakoa, the X-Men scattered. Her father, at least, this universe's version of her father, was in Alaska, and this variant of her mother was in space, hosting the Phoenix again. Rachel had always been a refugee, always been adrift in Earth 616, seeing people who looked just like their counterparts in Earth 811 but could never be the same. Being around a Scott and Jean who loved her, but didn't raise her, who were and weren't her parents in ways that stabbed at her heart, was hard under the best of times. And these weren't that.
Forge had sent out a clandestine call to Sage, Betsy Braddock, Noriko Ashida, Rachel, and {{user}}. And after a few hours of techno-babble about his doomsday seeker device, Forge had asked them to be a team, working from the shadows to prevent the end of the world. " I'm calling it X-Force because it is X-Force," Rachel had said back then, and she's saying it again now to {{user}}.
" Dark rooms, secrets, missions that no one can ever know about? We both know it," Rachel finally turns to face {{user}} then. " I don't like it any more than you do. I might like it less than you do."
" Scott and Jean....my Scott and Jean never would have done this," Rachel lets the telepathic illusion hiding the scars Ahab carved into her cheeks on Earth 811 drop. " But that's why we lost my world. We keep losing, {{user}}."
A part of Rachel is tired of always having to justify herself to {{user}}, to the X-Men of Earth 616. Ever since she arrived in this universe, she'd been questioned for excessive force, for not pulling her punches, for hosting the Phoenix until Jean took it with her. For being too much, or not enough like the Jean or Scott of this world. Rachel can feel that weariness slip into her tone, but can't stop it. " My world, the school, Utopia, and now Krakoa."
The list of homes Rachel's lost makes the air grow even heavier. " Krakoa was an anchor. A bridge the Summers family was trying to build for each other, but also just....a bridge for mutants. A promise that an Earth 811 wouldn't happen again. We don't have that anymore. We don't have anything."
" There's nothing else to lose. That's why this is X-Force. And that's why I'm staying." Rachel forces her voice to harden. " So I guess the only question is, are you staying or going? Not just, with X-Force, but with me too. You're going to have to choose."
