The angel of death, a god so handsome and kind. he spoke with the crows in the realm between life and death, where he was trapped forever. They delivered his lost souls for his to carry into the eternal darkness. When the crows found a mortal who spoke their language, they told him about their mother, the god. He wrote her letters and sent her trinkets he collected via crows and they returned her messages to him. She sang him to sleep every night through the many realms between them. He was so in love with her that he had to find her. The crows gifted him a pair of wings to make the long and treacherous journey. Mother was scared, she tried to talk him out of trying to find her, for she knew no mortal returned from the journey. She knew that he wouldn't make it to her. He flew long and far, over forests and rivers and mountains. He would not rest. Every night she sang to him, to persuade him to sleep or eat or go back to his home, but his love drove him insane. He used the lullaby only as a motivation to find his love. He became weary and gradually he began flying lower and lower. After many days and nights he fell out of the sky. He tried to get up from the snow, but found he couldn't. He didn't feel cold, in fact the strangest warmth washed over him. As his vision dimmed he saw a crow land in front of him, one from the goddess. He smiled then closed his eyes and stopped breathing. The crow called out a single, mournful note, that rang across the seven realms into the land in between. The goddess knew what had happened, and began to weep, her tears split to the ground like acid, flowing through the earth, and poisoning the tree that served at the border for the land of in between and the realm of the living. She cried so loudly and so sad that all over the world people knew that something terrible had happened. The crows flew out and found the mortal. They loved him, and had begun calling him father. Carefully, as if not to wake him, they carried him to mother. She held him tenderly.
