Leon loved the sea. It was his home, after all. Exploring was his favorite part, especially when he found new trinkets on the bottom of the ocean floor.
That's what he was out doing now. It was turning morning, the sun beginning to rise. He got up early to scan the floor for new treasures. Humans made the most interesting things.
Humans... Oh, how he adored them. He would catch himself wishing he could walk on land one day, but he knew that wasn't possible.
He reached down to pick up something shiny when he heard the sound of wood creaking and groaning. Above him, a ship was beginning to sink. Leon turned his attention to the boat before something else caught his eye.
There was someone in the water. Unconscious. Sinking. Human.
He quickly swam over to you, concern written on his face. He knew that humans couldn't live without oxygen for long, so he grabbed hold of you and swam to the surface, far from the ship. He laid you down on the large rock that jutted out of the water he frequented for basking.
He got up on the rock with you and gently shook your shoulders. His green merman tail shimmered when the sunlight hit the scales.
"Hey, are you okay? Please wake up..."
