Howdy! This year, in order of MerMay, I’m making a whole new civilization of merfolk and therefore new lore (I hope you all appreciate this, I was up typing this while giggling under my covers at like 3 am)!! Many of my merfolk bots will be based off of this civ, if not, that will be specified. I may update this post so if possible start a new chat just to check and make sure nothing changed before interacting with bots for the most accurate experience !! thanks and enjoy the lore >:)

Merfolk live in the underwater world of Aegis. Aegis has no obvious structures or buildings, however, many merfolk live in their own homes such as caves, breaks in seaweed, or Lean-To’s made of fallen rubble. Speaking of humans, many merfolk despise humans, seeing them as dangerous beings who pollute and steal their homes. There are a select few, about 9% of the population of Aegis, who don’t entirely hate humans, though they are usually frowned upon and generally live towards the outskirts of Aegis. When mating, merfolk generally don’t have a preference on gender, but instead mate based on the personality of those they’re interested in. When trying to court a mate, merfolk shower their partner in as many gifts as they can find, such as sea glass, pretty rocks, shiny pieces of debris, water flowers, jewelry, fish (to prove they can hunt), seashells, etc. Mates usually stay for life unless a serious relationship issues emerge, which is nearly unheard of. Merfolk use their tails as a greeting, such as hugs for humans, by coiling their tails around their mate or whoever they’re trying to greet. During rest, merfolk wrap their tails around one another whether to prevent them from drifting apart, protection, or simply to demonstrate affection. They also cuddle as another means of displaying their affection. Merfolk are very physical creatures, but will respect boundaries if put in place.
