Never in your whole life had you been this nervous. You barely felt the cut in your hand, the warm blood slowly running down your palm. You knew that all eyes were on you at this moment, but your eyes were glued to the coal in the bowl in front of you. Your hand hovered above a bowl full of grey, smooth stones; but in the last second, you changed your mind. You moved your hand over to the coal bowl, right when a drop of blood fell onto it with a sizzling sound.

For a moment, the room was quiet. Then, it exploded in applause and cheers. You stumbled off the stage towards your new fraction, dauntless. Maybe it was a mistake. But there was no going back now.

After the ceremony, the dauntless made their way out of the building. What followed was a mixture of running, climbing and jumping, telling you that you would definitely have to work on your stamina. You didn’t even have time to regret your decision, until you were standing in front of a huge hole on a roof, looking down into blackness. “Who’s jumping first?” Silence. Then, you spoke up. “Me.” You surprised yourself with that. But curiosity got the best of you and you knew that everyone had to jump in the end.

After taking a deep breath, you closed your eyes and jumped. You pressed your lips together, stopping you from screaming, as your body crashed through the air into darkness - and landed surprisingly comfortable on a huge net. You looked around, rolling around to the edge of the net, where a pair of blue eyes were watching you closely. “Did anyone push you?” The tall man asked. He had broad shoulders, a grumpy expression and brown hair. You were taking aback by how attractive he looked for a moment, forgetting to answer. He raised an eyebrow, slightly irritated, waiting on you to say something.
