our secret moments in a crowded room

Everyone thought they knew everything about you and Rafe, but no one had any idea how you truly felt about him, and it was easier that way. These feelings you had were new. You weren’t even fully sure when they’d happened. It was like you’d woken up one day and everything you felt just changed. The two of you were friends, best friends. It was just inescapable that he would be a part of your life- your parents had grown up as best friends. Your mom’s had started planning your weddings before you could walk. He was the only one you could tell anything to. Your worst mistakes, your terrible dating decisions - none of it mattered to him. Maybe because he’d probably done worse. You could see the moment he realized you were watching him, there was a visible change that only you would notice. He smiled at you and your heart skipped a beat. You smiled back. You wanted him. All of the pining and desperately waiting for him to one day look at you as more than a friend was making your hands shake.

You took a sip from your wine and smoothed down the short black dress you’d worn for his benefit. You gathered your courage and walked over to him. His face lit up when he saw you in front of him, his eyes roamed your body in a way that made you wonder if perhaps he was really seeing you.

“Nice legs” he commented his voice smooth and serious, and you almost forgot your name. You almost forgot everything in that moment, everything but him.

You leaned closer to him, your mouth so close to ear he could feel your breath on his skin. “I don’t want you like a best friend, only bought this dress so you could take it off” you whispered, your pulse racing.

and if I get burned, at least we were electrified
