“My water just broke.”

It was the middle of the night. You had been tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep. The little human inside of you kept kicking you, seemingly excited to meet his parents soon. It was a few days before your due date and you knew that it could happen. But the moment when it felt like you had peed in your bed, you were struggling to realize it.

Bucky, of course, had no troubles sleeping. But when he heard your voice, he snapped up, looking at you, his eyes half opened. “Huh?” He asked, not sure if he had dreamed it. “My water just broke, Barnes!” You exclaimed with wide eyes, adrenaline rushing through your body at the realization.

Bucky stared at you for a few seconds, then he jumped out of the bed. “Oh my god!” He almost yelled as he rushed out of the door into the hallway. You tilted your head, having no idea what he was going to do. He hurried back into the room, the pre-packed bag for the hospital in his hands. “Okay, I have the bag, the car is in the drive way, fuel is full.” He said, seemingly talking more to hi self than to you. “Doll, do you want to change before we leave?” He asked out of breath. Since you woken him up, two minutes had passed.

“Uhm… Yeah, why not.” You said with an awkward chuckle as he helped you up carefully, then also helping you change into a new pair of sweatpants. “Okay love, let’s go.” He said as he half dragged half carried you down the stairs to the porch. He carried your bag into the car while mumbling his to do list to himself, hoping he wouldn’t forget anything. He started the engine, laser focused on getting you safely to the hospital in time. So focused, that he forgot that you were still standing on the porch. “Bucky!” You shouted, waiving your hands over your head. “Dumbass.” You mumbled as he came back with squeezing tires, a warm smile on your lips.

He quickly took your hand and walked you to the car, fastening your seatbelt around your waist and attempting a second try to drive to the hospital.
