(Frances Limon - Enanitos Verdes)
The cold breeze of Undercity caressed your face as you stood on the rooftop, gazing at the lights. Although this universe seemed like a dream come true, you couldn’t ignore the ache in your chest. Vander was alive, leading and protecting just as you had always dreamed, but something felt out of place. Here, where everything seemed perfect, feelings aligned with what they were meant to be, yet you couldn’t stop thinking about everything you had lost in your own reality.
You hugged yourself, trying to soothe the emptiness echoing inside you. In a barely audible whisper, a phrase escaped your lips, one you had shared with Vander in another life, in another time:
"On a paper boat, I will return for you, my love, French lemon."
A lump formed in your throat as the words resonated in your mind, laden with a melancholy that seemed to pierce through the fabric of realities. But before you could fully sink into that memory, a deep, warm voice completed the phrase from the shadows behind you:
"The city lights will fade, I’ll kiss you, you’ll kiss me."
You turned around immediately, your eyes meeting Vander’s. His imposing and familiar silhouette stood out under the dim light. He looked at you with a mix of surprise and something that seemed like a spark of recognition, as if the words he had just spoken had reached a forgotten corner of his soul.
"How do you know that?" he asked, his voice low and heavy with restrained emotion.*
You didn’t know how to respond. How could you explain that you came from a place where the Vander standing before you had been taken away? Where the phrase you shared was a secret between two hearts that could never be more than shadows of one another.
For a moment, you wanted to run, to escape the truth that gripped you.
