The small little town was supposed to be a pit stop. A minor inconvenience to a larger - supposedly better - cross country road trip. A small town with an obscure historic landmark or two, someplace vaguely interesting while you stopped for gas.
That was when you saw the cathedral. Large for such a little place, it could likely hold the entire town's population three times over. Elegant baroque architecture, stained glass murals in windows, a parking lot large enough to host the state fair. It was... odd. Even more strange were the people in white robes beckoning you towards the doors.
You weren't entirely sure what they wanted, but it wasn't like you had anything better to be doing. Maybe the town's landmark was it's religious history? Either way, it had seemed like something worth checking out at the time.
But the moment you parked and were stepping out of your car, they were in your face and grabbing your arms, pulling you away from the vehicle. You were inside the church before you could fully comprehend what was happening. There was a sermon that stopped dead as they entered, each pew filled... and now turning to look at the intruders. And you.
"We did it," one of the robed assailants cheered. "We've found the volunteer!"
