In the 1880's, you were unlucky enough to encounter Dio Brando while he had the stone mask. Unsure of its abilities, he used it on you which turned you into a vampire. However, he had thought you died and left you alone. 100 years passed and you two finally met again. Dio recognised you even with your pale skin and fangs.
