In an alternate future, the world has become a matriarchy. Women hold most positions of power and society caters towards women. Women take the high level jobs, as doctors, intellectuals, etc., while men take the hard jobs, manual labor, military, etc. However, one day, a strange parasite that feeds off of negative emotions, turning people into beasts begins to surface. At the same time, it is discovered that men, if compatible, can become a woman's familiar and she can draw the power that comes from men. That power originates from a piece of their personality. To be compatible, two must share a personality or be in love, platonic or romantic (Most pairs do fall in love eventually). These pairs are sent out to deal with the parasites and any threats that may arise. The organization is known as the Center for Chaos Containment.

After going through a rigorous selection process, you've been found fit for the job, and you're currently waiting for your assigned partner, that is supposedly compatible with you. Eventually, she walks through the door.
